Anime Explain Episode 2: Easygoing Territory Defense by the Optimistic Lord

Later, Van picks up a small twig and uses his production magic to transform it into a sword, proving that the supposedly useless magic can create incredible things. Till and Comm are amazed, while Van simply wants to discover how useful his ability can really be.

As they approach the village, Van tells Comm that he can return to the mansion if he dislikes village life. He even offers to cancel his slave contract and assures him that Murcia will treat him well. However, Comm refuses, saying he has already sworn to serve Van and will stay by his side. Van is surprised by his loyalty, especially since no one in his previous life had ever shown him such devotion.

Suddenly, the carriage stops. Van learns that the village is under attack by around fifty experienced bandits. The wooden walls are holding them back, but the villagers are being attacked with arrows. Dee wants to fight alongside the Knights and protect the people who will soon become Van’s citizens. However, Ortho, the adventurers’ leader, refuses to help because their mission is only to protect Van, not fight a battle they could lose.

Dee decides to fight anyway and asks Ortho to protect Van and retreat if necessary. But Esparda suddenly reveals that he is actually an elemental mage. He proposes creating a defensive wall so the adventurers can attack from behind it while Dee and the Knights flank the bandits. Esparda intends to draw their attention himself, even though it could cost him his life.

Van refuses to let Esparda or the Knights sacrifice themselves. He realizes that losing them would make developing the village nearly impossible, and his father would likely punish him for failing. So Van comes up with another plan: he will act as the decoy. Till immediately refuses to let him take the risk and offers to go instead, while Comm is also ready to help. But Van insists that he cannot allow anyone close to him to die. He plans to ride the carriage straight toward the bandits and draw their attention, giving the others an opening to attack from the sides.

Dee thinks Van’s plan is far too dangerous, but Van reminds him that he trained under him and won’t die so easily. He even says that if he does die protecting his people, there could be no better ending for a noble. Van draws his sword and asks Dee to leave his body behind if he dies, so his family’s name will not be stained by his failure.

Van’s determination changes Ortho’s opinion of him. At first, Ortho disliked the idea of guarding a noble because he assumed they were all arrogant. But Van had personally greeted him and even complimented him for looking cool. Now, seeing Van willing to risk his life for his people, Ortho decides to fight alongside him. He says that he can’t call himself cool if he lets a child fight alone. His companions agree, and Dee also steps forward, refusing to let his lord face danger alone. Esparda joins them as well, joking that he will have to start Van’s lessons all over again if he thinks sacrificing himself is a good strategy.

Esparda quickly creates a massive earthen wall and orders the Knights and adventurers to attack the bandits from both sides. Arrows rain down from behind the wall while Dee and Ortho’s teams flank the enemy. The bandits struggle to respond, and Dee cuts through several of them at once. Then he releases such a terrifying aura that many of the remaining bandits flee in panic.

The bandit leader realizes they cannot win and charges toward the wall to attack the people behind it. Just before he reaches them, Van draws his attention and catches him off guard. Van slips behind the massive man and strikes his knees, bringing him down. Comm then joins the fight, using his axe to launch himself forward and deliver the finishing blow. Soon, the remaining bandits are captured, and Van’s side suffers no casualties.

Ortho is pleased with the outcome and initially plans to leave once they receive their payment. However, after seeing Van’s courage and potential, he asks his core team if they want to stay and see what Van can accomplish with the nameless village. Some adventurers leave because the village offers little money, but Ortho and his closest companions decide to stay, believing Van will eventually become someone worth betting on.

Meanwhile, Till scolds Van for risking his life and tells him to let her handle the danger next time. Soon, Dee informs Van that the villagers have gathered at the gate to welcome him. Van enters with confidence, but his excitement quickly fades when he sees how poor and underdeveloped the village is. The village chief welcomes him and thanks him for saving everyone. Van’s first question is whether the village has been attacked like this before.

The village chief confirms that they have already been attacked several times this year. He explains that the village once belonged to another territory where knights regularly patrolled, but after becoming part of the Fertio family’s land, no one came to protect them. Van apologizes and admits that his father has overlooked the smaller villages. This angers the villagers, who question whether nobles simply ignore villages because they pay less tax.

Van tells them that blaming others won’t solve their problems. He explains that the village has three choices: produce something valuable enough to attract the kingdom’s attention, earn enough money to hire mercenaries, or rebuild the village and make it prosperous. When a villager says they have nothing to work with, Van assures them that things are different now because they finally have a lord willing to protect them.

The villagers remain doubtful because Van is only a child, but their confidence quickly changes when Esparda and Dee introduce themselves as a former head butler and the vice commander of the Knights. When asked about his magical ability, Van honestly admits that he possesses production magic rather than powerful elemental magic, disappointing the villagers once again. However, when they complain about struggling to pay the 30% tax, Van immediately lowers it to 10% until the village becomes stable, winning back their support.

Van then focuses on the village’s defenses. He asks Esparda about his magical walls, and the old butler explains that they are temporary. So, while planning to build a permanent wall later, Van asks Esparda to create one around the village for now. Esparda effortlessly surrounds the entire settlement with a massive earthen wall, leaving everyone stunned. Van also asks Dee to prepare traps and pitfalls to slow down future attackers. Finally, he encourages the villagers to work together and promises to turn their struggling settlement into a prosperous home.

Later, Van heads into the forest to properly test his production magic. He carefully examines a piece of wood, breaks it down into extremely fine threads, and rearranges them into a tightly woven structure, creating an incredibly strong cube. Till and Comm have no idea what it is, so Van explains that he has created a nanomaterial. When Ortho and his companions discover the strange cubes, Ortho decides to test one by throwing it into the air and striking it with all his strength. The cube crashes into a nearby tree, yet somehow remains completely undamaged.

Ortho is stunned because his sword strike is strong enough to cut through stone, yet the nanomaterial cube remains completely untouched. Van becomes even more curious about his production magic and spends the rest of the day creating various weapons and objects. Despite using his magic for hours, he doesn’t feel tired at all. Wondering how much mana he actually possesses, Van casually creates a katana from wood. Comm is immediately fascinated by the unusual sword, so Van gives it to him. Seeing this, Till also gives Van a pleading look, so he makes her an axe. Unfortunately, its creepy skull design doesn’t exactly match her cute appearance.

That night, Van sits beside the campfire while Till and Comm sleep. After traveling and fighting all day, he realizes how exhausted and dirty everyone must be. He decides that before improving the village, they need some basic facilities.

The next morning, Van starts building a house using his nanomaterial cubes. The villagers gather around, curious about what their young lord is attempting. Even Van isn’t sure whether his magic can handle something this large, but he carefully focuses on every detail. He creates strong pillars, builds the walls around them, adds rooms, doors, and windows, and finally constructs the roof. Within moments, an entire mansion stands before the stunned villagers. Van is delighted because he now has a proper and comfortable home in his new territory.
